The Abbatial Gendarmerie is an official institution of the Principality of Sabourg. For the purposes of territorial management it is a non-profit association of volunteers governed by Italian law. Its mission is to assist citizens, particularly the most vulnerable, to provide first aid and support to civil protection, to promote historical and cultural events, to teach civic education and music to young and old alike, and to protect the land and marine environment.
This volunteer organisation is chaired by His Most Reverend Highness the Prince-Abbot of Sabourg, assisted by the Chief of Staff.
